Although many students are "comfortable" with technology, fewer are proficient, and fewer yet have an in-depth understanding. The curriculum should help them become more proficient and good prepared for the technology demands of the hereafter company environment. The intensely technological nature of the classroom caress also addresses the assorted learning styles.  The auditory learner will have voice, music, and noise.  The visual learner will enjoy the videos, powerpoints, and other visuals.  The kinesthetic learner will appreciate the hands on components, especially the Smartboard.  

Student satisfaction is, of course, a former objective.  Education, especially for-profit education, exists to serve the student, while running a business.  And, through serving and satisfying the student, finally the learner will stay in school, graduate, and learn valuable knowledge and skills in the process.  These graduates will benefit the company community, and community at large.  An advanced community like ours is critically dependent on an educated and effective populous.  

Employer Needs  

What do employers want and need?  The link to employer requirements is a vital one.  Businesses need educated workers.  They require technologically adroit employees who can meet the demands of a rapidly changing technological environment and a highly competing situation.

Ours is a effective society.  Businesses spend billions of dollars training and re-training their employees.  "Business Ready" graduates will be more effective from day one and employers will appreciate this.

Has education Come To This?  

Purists would argue that the more former approaches are preferable, and that academic freedom is being infringed upon.  They would say that instructors should be hired based on their knowledge, potential of education, expertise, explore history and contributions to their field.  They would unmistakably prefer to see pure "academicians" and "scholars" in the classroom.  However, there is room for an sharp turn over here.  Is it about the trainer or the student?  Obviously, we understand that it's about both, but whose needs take precedence?  The talk has to be - The Student!  After all, the whole educational theory is in place to meet the needs of the student, and ultimately, society.  

Instructors with real-world, practical caress and without techno-phobia will be more adaptable to this new format, and maybe good qualified to impart to the student.

In education there is all the time room for a broad range of opinions and approaches. Let's try this new one.  It works in company - why not education?  This is probably why vocation Colleges are embracing the arrival much more readily than their mainstream counterparts. The "for-profit" vocation Colleges are undoubtedly  the forefront of this initiative, and "early adopters." 

We all know that "quality " is an issue in education.  Graduates with virtually identical credentials can have vastly distinct skills, knowledge, and abilities.  This is, and all the time has been a concern. This standardized, quality-assured model addresses that issue.

Sure, this educational model is controversial, as it should be!  But the end effect may very well be that students have a reasonably similar experience, learn comparable skills, and become good "fits" within the company world.  Employers can be good assured and certain that graduates have the knowledge and skill base they require to be successful contributors.  They will probably, at some point, wish to be full participants in the curriculum development process.  In the globally competing market, this might just be what is needed.

When we're teaching company we must be business-minded.  Let's exchange those "best practices" from the company world to academia, keep our students involved, and good get ready them for their hereafter careers.  And, the lessons to be learned from places like McDonald's may be more applicable to education than we might have ever imagined.

He passed away on Saturday, October 3, 2009, at Rush Copley Hospital after a two-week illness. He was born in Aurora, IL, on October 22, 1922, the son of Edward H. and Martha J. (Westphal) Fauth. After graduating from East High School of Aurora, Ed began working for Barber-Greene Company. He served with the 477th Railroad Battalion of the US Army in World War II which was involved in the Battle of the Bulge. He returned to Barber-Greene after the war and stayed with the company for 31 years eventually becoming the Vice President of Engineering and Marketing. During this time he completed his education in mechanical engineering with degrees from Michigan State University (BS) and the Illinois Institute of Technology (MS). He later became Dean of Community Services with Waubonsee Community College where he worked until retirement in 1987. During his tenure there he completed an advanced degree in higher education from Nova University (Ed.D.). In addition to his employment Ed was very active in multiple community organizations including the East Aurora District 131 School Board, Aurora YMCA, Aurora Economic Development Commission, Aurora Urban League, Aurora Home Rule and Revenue Sharing Committee, Aurora Labor-Management Committee, Kane Kendall County Mental Health Center, Kane County Community Action Agency, United Way and Rotary International Club of Aurora. Attending these meetings can be daunting and intimidating to non-educational members of the team. It doesn't have to be though. If a parent is prepared for the meeting and knows the 'drill' it should be much less difficult.

If your child has never had a extra education designation, a member of the school community, yourself or your doctor may propose that your child is tested to determine if he or she needs extra support. Sometimes it is inescapable (your child may have autism, down's syndrome, or a corporeal disability) and other times further testing needs to be completed to determine eligibility.

The first step is for you or school personnel to start the process. If you launch the process (through a written letter - example to be shown) the school must hold an initial meeting called a Planning and Placement Team (Ppt) meeting. At this meeting a estimate of individuals may be present. This will comprise a building administrator, extra education teacher, a regular education teacher, the school psychologist, advice counselor, school nurse, transition coordinator and anything else deemed necessary. Your child's strengths and weaknesses will be discussed and you will be asked for your input and what your concerns are. You must also sign a permission to test form. Withholding permission will stop the process. The school district may determine that legal mediation is valuable at this time. A multi-disciplinary will be conducted to determine eligibility and must be completed within 45 of the initiation of services. Therefore, a full evaluation must be completed from the date the school receives your letter (or is internally referred by school personnel) within 45 school days. Weekends and vacations do not count. At the 2nd meeting it will be considered whether or not your child qualifies for extra education services. For placement in extra education, you must give your written consent. This can be withdrawn but you should seek the advice of an educational lawyer or advocate if you plan to do this. If it is considered that your child does not qualify for extra education services, ask about a qualification under a 504 designation. You can disagree with any of the decisions made and have it noted in the private education Plan (Iep). The Iep is the map that school personnel will use to guide them in servicing your child's educational needs. You also have the option of disputing your position through the courts. The school district I work in tries to work with parents and avoid this altogether. If you win your case, the school district must pay your legal bills. It is suggested that you bring other private with you (spouse, friend, pastor) for inescapable support. You should write down the concerns you have: strengths, what your child needs the most help with, goals that you want your child to succeed.
